Happy Thanksgiving

To those of you who live in the USA or have North American roots, I hope you have a wonderful and peaceful Thanksgiving! As the token American at Bohemia, I am traveling this evening to spend Thanksgiving with some old friends in London and to reflect on the blessings of the past year. Ten ways to use pouffes in your home, from Apartment Therapy

Earlier this week, venerable home decorating blog Apartment Therapy put together a great list of different ways to use pouffes in your home. Pouffes have had a lot of press recently (ours were recently featured in the Times Saturday Magazine and Scotland on Sunday, and will soon be in Cosmo Bride!), and it's nice to see a creative round-up of different ways to put them to use. The A.T. article suggests:

• Drape an afghan over your pouf for color and texture
• Have one close by to use as a footstool
• We'd use ours for extra seating when there are a surplus of guests
• Display a pair in front of a non-working fireplace to create a vignette
• If you're afraid of painting, use a pouf in the living room for a pop of color
• A group of poufs are great for creating seating when dining around a coffee table
• Add a tray on top of a larger pouf to make a coffee table or workspace
• Since poufs are squishy and are without hard edges, they're safe for kids
• A large pouf can stand on its own to act as extra seating or a place for items to land.

Our buyers recently returned from a trip to Morocco, where they saw our pouffes being made by hand and got to know the artisans who create them. We are expecting a new shipment any day now, full of exciting new colours and styles to soften or spice up your home! We recently had a delivery of traditional rag dolls & we've been amazed at how popular they have been. Surprised too at how little girls seem to be irresistibly drawn to them. They are like toys from a distant age & it's lovely to see how they still have great appeal for the modern child.

I particularly love the traditional pink ballet shoe as it conjures up so many childhood memories for me, even though ballet was never my forte & I would try to hide at the back of the class!

Moroccan Leather Pouffes

These images give you a flavour of our wonderful range of Moroccan leather pouffes. They are handmade exclusively for us at Bohemia by Hamid & his team in a small studio in the medina of Marrakech. Hamid chooses the finest quality leathers & these are then finished by hand, either using coloured dyes or natural oils.

As I write, our friends in Morocco are working on our new collection of pouffes & babouches.. We've introduced some amazing new colours for this season which I can't wait for you to see. Delivery should be with us by the end of this month.

What a treat the postman has just brought for us - a big brown paper parcel full of smiling cats!

These wee darlings come to us all the way from the studio of Jane Foster down in Brighton. Jane screenprints by hand the cat's faces onto linen & makes the bodies from the most beautiful vintage fabrics.

Our glorious technicolour collection of cats are now for sale in our Marchmont & Morningside, Edinburgh stores, although I can hardly bare to part with them...

Djemma el Fna at Night

Deb & I are not long back from a buying trip to Marrakech, one of my favourite places on earth. It is always really exciting to meet up with Hamid at his workshop, drink mint tea (Moroccan whisky!) & discuss our new order. It will soon be winging it's way to us, a dazzling array of colourful new pouffes & babouches, will keep you posted.
